Funds to help A Leg Rescue with Capio's Vet Bills After Being Attacked

Organized by A Leg Up Rescue/Bam Bam Fund

WOW...Can it really be four weeks!
Capio's attack was four weeks ago. And I am so happy to say he is FLOURISHING. He is indeed missing an eye, and has a broken nose and is a pound lighter but he is looking GOOD.
He was at the recent San Francisco Chihuahua Meetup and he met two wonderful people. Both are ready to stand up and deliver the perfect adoptive home.
So my little one-eyed avid hiker will go on an over-night this Wednesday!
All keeps your fingers and paws crossed. It's time for Capio to find his own sofa that forever will be his!

And THANK YOU everyone for the donations! Its been a HUGE help to A Leg Up Rescue as the bills topped 4k!
Two Weeks After the Attack
Hello everyone!
Well hard to believe it but its been two weeks since that very rough day when Capio was attacked while on a walk in the peninsula.
He is doing so WELL!
1. Today, the stitches were removed!
2. He has been weaned off of pain meds.
3. Capio has been eating on his own. (He's lost over 1.5 lbs so he's thin but still at a safe weight...needs to eat to get the nutrition.
4. Capio still LOVES his hikes! He went out three times last week and it was wonderful to see Capio sniffing the bushes and leaving his mark.

He still has 6-8 wks until all of the facial fractures should be healed. It hurts and its part of why he is eating so little.

Vet bills are over 4.5k but thanks to so many kind people, we are whittling this expense away!

Thank you for donating and for sharing with friends & family. Donations are coming in from all over the US. :)

Please feel free to donate via Chip-in or directly to via www.aleguprescue.org/donate

Thank You!
Capio Week 2 Update
Its been 9 days since Capio was attacked at Bidwell-Bayfront Park in Menlo Park. There have been amazing improvements in his health. He is drinking fluids on his own and he has been out walking the past two days. When he is out on the walks, his tail is high and he glides down the paths. He's so happy outside in the warm sunshine. But its obvious he is still experiencing pain. And that makes sense. He has multiple facial fractures that are healing. And he still won't eat and so syringe feedings continue.

People have been wonderfully generous with the donations towards Capio's vet bills. We still have a ways to go so please do consider a donation..$5.00, $10.00 all goes a long way to helping A Leg Up Rescue manage the vet bills. And share with friends and family.

Capio Post Surgery Day 2
Today is post-surgery day 2. Capio is looking "better" but he is not eating and the vet feels the little guy is depressed. :(
I took him outside for about 20 minutes and it made such a difference but he still would not eat and so sadly cannot come home.
Keep thinking good thoughts for the boy and let's get him home!
Capio Post-Surgery
Capio Was Attacked On Monday Night
On Monday, one of A Leg Up Rescue's little foster dogs started his evening off with a fun-sniffing filled adventure at Bayfront-Bidwell Park in Menlo Park. This little fellow LOVES his hikes at the park AKA The Marsh. And every day, he is there covering a mile or more of this amazing place.

This Monday, things were very very different. On this particular walk, our world changed. An unleashed, uncontrolled, unneutered Bull Terrier attacked the little pack of Chihuahua and snatch Capio into his mouth. It took THREE people to pry open the dog's mouth to rescue Capio. And when he was let go, the damage was shocking.

Capio was covered in blood. He had punture wounds all over his head. And most frighteing of all was the fact that his eye was hanging out of his heads. His tounge was hanging as well. And his nose has a hole.

Rushed to Redwood Animal Hospital, he was given amazing care and shockingly as violent as the attack was and as horrific as the wounds were....the vet staff said that it was recoverable. And so the Flirt-became-fighter and fought he did!

Capio has had surgery to remove the eye. His broken cheek and nose will mend without surgerical intervention. He will need long term patient care. Soft food for a long time due to the trauma of the jaw. But rumor has it he is coming home tonight or tomorrow.

The pictures of the attack are available but way to traumatic to share to the general folks....but if you do want to see, please email kate@3chis.com.
I will be posting pics of post-operative Capio...and chronicling his recovery.

A Leg Up Rescue needs your help in covering the mounting vet bills. Yes, the owner of the Bull Terrier is legally responsible but the likelihood that he can cover is minimal. Right now, we need your help to help us with the vet bills! The bills are over $4k with Redwood Animal/San Carlos Emergency Hospital.

Any contribution makes a difference.
